: What's the bottom line ($$) on a failed tranny?

I've read a lot here about the common tranny failure(s), mainly the reverse going out. But I found a SWEET '01 with the 3rd row seat I'm looking for and all the other stuff already fixed (timing belt, front bags, etc) at a cheap price BECAUSE "...reverse is a little weak...".

So what's the best price I can expect to have the ranny rebuilt or swapped out, at a non-dealer (Euro specialty) repair shop?

I'm guessing they all quote on the book # of hours for the swap or repair, so I guess the only place to save is the cost of the tranny itself or rebuild kit.

Is there any way to do this under 3k?
