Hello everyone, former 2003 A8 owner here and a near future owner of a 04-05.
I have a question that I imagine has been covered, but I could not find an answer to.
Is it possible (without major modifications) to take a front bumper from a 2006 or newer A8 and install it on a 04-05?
Thanks for your replies and patience if this has been beaten 100 times over already.

from what ive seen on other threads, it is possible but you will also require wings, if you havent bought the car yet you may be better of buying a model up anyway.

Wings?

As far as getting an 06... Value for the dollar is the biggest obstacle. It is almost $5-10K difference between 04-05 models and the lowest prices 06's.

yes i understood it was Bumper , 2 front wings(fenders) oh and the hood

im not sure about the lights. (These are probably $1000 alone)

if you look at the cost of those items, plus fitting, and matching the paint, i wouldnt be suprised if its close. im in the same position, im now wishing i had paid the extra.

a cheaper alternative is this
I have seen a kit on line which means you only have to change the bumper and grill also they do one with integrated drls which looks good

Audi A8 4E 05- JE Design Front Bumper - GRP | Body Kits | A8: D2 >98 & 4E (02-09) | Audi | BODY KIT Ltd (http://www.body-kit.co.uk/product.php/11391/240/audi-a8-4e-05-je-design-front-bumper-grp)

looks quite good

Hofele also do some kits and they have a place in the US

Wow! I am surprised that it is not just the bumper that is to be replaced. The hood as well?? That is just crazy. They don't look any different. Even the cut in between the headlights and the grille look exactly the same...

So you have an 04 (or 05) and did the changes to make it look like an 06?

no havent done it yet, I have an 05 , 6 months ago i thought i didnt care if was facelift or not, now i do, so just been looking around to see what it entailed and how much. At the time i was looking at 2 cars, the black 05 which i bought and an Silver 06 which was $5-6K more. I now wish i had just paid the extra.

however

the aftermarket ones are much cheaper than the oem, as you dont have to change the fenders and hood, what in trying to decide is if its better / easier to wait 6 months and change the car or whether doing the retrofit will add value to the car. its tempting

As with most mods, they do not add value to the car. You may attract more buyers when time to sell, but after all is said and done you are lucky to break even.
What other advantages of going for 06 vs an 05 are there? Aside from the front bumper. I am wandering about mechanical/electronics. Do you know of any?

yeah your right im just trying to talk myself in to it

Doesnt look like many differences, im not an expert as i havent owned both, but the interior is identical from what i can see, ive read the main difference apart from the front is a better quieter ride. whether thats true i coulnt say, worth checking out if you havent spent the money yet. also when you come to do vag com mods you may find that you also have uprated modules which will give easier retrofits like optical parking etc.

Ive put in the AMI ipod system a couple of weeks ago,

here is some info i found with the part numbers required for a8 retrofit, it doesnt mention fenders i think

Yeah, I've been looking at the lltek site.
What color is your car? You know you can also attempt to do the black out of the middle of the bumper and extending the chrome moulding to connect the upper and lower grille.
Here is an example that I like very much:

It looks good from a distance, not sure how it will look up close,

mines in black already so might not work so well

Yeah, it may not look that good on black. That is why I asked.
Anyways, thanks for your feedback. Keep me posted if you come across anything. I will do same.

Done some more checking and searching, the pdf on retrofititing seems to be quite correct as far as i can tell. so i got some prices

Bumper 363
Bonnet/Hood 877
mouldings 68
Grille w/o acc 205
licence plate bracket 43
moulding (099) 361
Jets 67
(seems to be a retrofit kit with all the bits req, chrome bits etc)

not sure why this is on the list, but this is the price
horn air 210

I have the xenons already so dont think i need these
headlamps circa 1000

All the prices are in pounds and have 18% added for tax

without the lamps it looks like about 2000ish, which is much less than i thought,
all you need then is someone to fit it a nd Painting

So where did you get that parts list and any idea where to get it done? I want to give my 04 A8 the facelift.
