Hi all.I got a 2000 W reg 1.8t non quattro and i got some idle problems. The car runs sweet all the time but whenever im on a standstill ie at the lights, it dips to 500revs and goes back to normal within a split second. doesnt cause much hassle but want to know what the problem is. been told that its probably an idle control sensor or worse still the ecu :( can anyone offer any suggestions for me at this frustrating time??!! cheers.

Could be many things best get on a computer and check for fault codes. Do you have a "chav valve" sorry dump valve. Could try a run with the MAF unpluged see if it still does it.

Nope dont have a "chav valve" i thought that was the answer i was gonna get.first i thought it could be the TB, took it apart and gave it a thorough clean, but no luck.anyway a friend of mine has but is in china on a business trip, when he gets back ill tell him to hook my car up to it. cheers m8

Has it been remapped or decated

nope, totally standard. was thinking of remapping to 180bhp but dont know if its a sensible and reliable thing to do. Whats your opinion on remapping?? will i need to change things ie brakes, intake etc etc or could i leave it at just a remap??

cheers m8. there's some really good information in that link. maybe a thorough clean of the MAF might be a good idea and an oil and oil filter change could be a sensible start.

thanx bud, ill make sure im really careful, i change my oil every 6months and a change is due in a few weeks so will invest in some of that oil. could i use any type of oil with that grade or is the one u recommended the best.
(cost really isnt an issue, just want to know what i should/shouldnt use)

"Hornets nest"
I dont go by cost due to the fact its going to cheaper than a engine :)
I go by what works for me ive never had any problems I change 3k - 4k with genuine filters depending on how its used many will argue the fact and oil type but I tend to go with what has worked for me.

End of the day how much is your engine worth to you

Right i had exactly that problem. If i bliped the revs on idle,it would struggle to settle back down. So, i got a carb cleaner and really cleaned out the throttle body.i then cleaned the air temp sensor on the intercooler pipe (with petrol) thats just after the throttle body at the front of the engine bay, reset the ecu and runs better that ever.Hope this helps.

Sounds like you may need to perform a throttle body adaption. Did you get the problem fixed?
