i have a facelift s3. it keeps overheating. the a/c works. the thermostat works, so i thought as a temporary measure to take the thermostat out as that way it wouldnt overheat, so far thats a success. but what is wrong with it? why does it keep overheating? both my fans are working, and i have also replaced the switch which operates the radiators. the only way i can drive it without overheating is without the thermostat.

however the water in my radiator also needs to be refilled every 2 days cos it keeps draining, could that just be a water pump that needs replacing?

please someone help, as im dreading the symptoms of a headgasket problem

thanks

First check the water pump, remove the thermostat housing and you can see the impeller, check to see if it's broken or spinning on it's shaft.

Are you losing water through the radiator? i dont know if this is the best way but check if there is any water coming from the exhaust and if you take the oil cap off, if there is water mixed with the oil it is a good sign the headgasket has gone.
