: A3 turbo replacement - still no torque

After recently investigating a lack of power/torque in my Audi A3 1.9 Tdi, I was told that the vains of the VNT Turbo were sticking.

Trusting what the garage had told me, I obtained a recon turbo, and fitted it myself, carefully following the Haynes manual and ensuring I did everything correctly. During the process of fitting the new turbo, I took out the EGR valve. Although it had alot of gunge in it, it seemed to be working ok, and does not seem to be sticking. Nevertheless, I cleaned it out and re-fitted it.

On testing the car I found that there was a marginal improvement in performance, but nothing like what i was expecting. Not only have I had the expense of fitting a reconditioned turbo, but even worse, it has completely failed to solve the problem.

Now I fear that it may not have been the turbo after all (despite being told by the garage that this was the problem).

It sounds as though the turbo is working, as I can hear it, but the engine is just not responding as it should.

I am totally stuck, as I had expected a recon turbo to sort the problem out. I don't know what else to try in order to restore the torque? Should I take it to a specialist to run a diagnostic test? I don't want to continue replacing things in the hope I will eventually get to the cause of the problem
