Temp and fuel gauge errors

My 1.8 non turbo 2002 A3 gauges are driving me insane, firstly the temp gauge indicated 90 as soon as the ignition is switched on even if the car has been standing over night and rose to around 110 as I drive then drops back to 90. This happened for 2days now it shows the temp is between 110 and 120 as soon as the car is switched on without even starting the car the fans start turning and the overheating warning light comes on. Has anyone had this problem before or knows where I can start to look where the fault can be?
