New here - 2004 TT help Needed

Hey guys - I am new here but needed some advice. Recently, I hit another pothole and of course, my tire is shredded to the bone. I have a 3.2 2004 Audi TT with high performance tires and this is the second time this has happened (yes, avoiding potholes in the city of Chicago can be challenging). Anyway, while I was on the highway waiting for AAA to come, my battery died because I was in need of a new one and me, being the moron I was, turned my engine off after an hour but left the lights on because it was dark, and everything was under construction, etc.

My TT got towed to Audi and they tell me a new battery is $315. When I asked why expensive they gave me some bs reason (I think) and stated not only does the radio need to be reset, but there are other computer systems that have to be as well (which is the same for all cars). Is this accurate or am I being played? In addition, they told me they can't jump my car however I feel as if this might be bs too?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I do not want to spend $315 on a new battery and in addition they tell me my tire will be $325, which somehow jumped $100 from 1.5 months ago when I paid $225 for one tire.

Thanks! Stacy

Hey Stacy, I'm sure not the most qualified person to talk about this but I do know that you have to reset all of you electronics when the battery is replaced. I disconnected mine to do some work on my car (a4) this weekend and had to reset my clock/date/time and all of radio or other settings were lost. I believed that batteries typically run $100+ so it doesn't seem too far fetched to get to $300 with labor for the swap and reprogramming.

Thanks HysBrian - I appreciate it. I've looked online and have found Audi batteries for much cheaper. I am waiting to hear back from a trusted auto mechanic so hopefully that will help. I know Audi loves to put a dent in your wallet when they can. Thanks again!

The Radio can be done by yourself with instruction which we will be able to provide but should be in the manual and the same goes to the time other than that the windows might need doing which is done buy pressing the windows closed when the are already closed a couple of time fast.

The car may run a little off for a short while but this will be the ECU relearning the engine and will settle down quite quickly.

Hi Stacy, Don't let the Stealership rip you off. I replaced the battery in my 04 TT with a Red Top Optima Battery which will probably outlast the car and it was only about 125 shipped from Summit Racing. Installation is fairly easy and I did it in less than 30 minutes and I was taking my time and cleaning the battery housing etc.. The Radio reset takes about 20 seconds and the clock another 15 seconds so don't pay the Dealer over 300 bucks to reset your radio and clock. That is just lunacris.
Let me know if you need some help and I will come over and install the battery for you. ;-)

Thanks for all your help everyone. Yeah, I was able to get EVERYTHING done by a trusted mechanic and frankly, I felt better giving him my money than the stupid dealership. Now, Audi wants $75 to tell me the friggin code to reset my radio because the dealership I bought my car from got rid of all the information pertaining to my car and never wrote any codes down in my manual (GR). I am actually going to pick my car up from the mechanics who did everything so hopefully they were able to get around Audi's bull**** about "giving them the number on my radio and then for $75 they will tell me the code." I think it's really the dealership by my house because I called a couple others and they said they don't charge people for that. Unbelievable. I had my Audi towed away from that dealership and told them I was having other people work on my car. They were PISSED. Haha. They kept asking me what price was getting for my battery, tire, etc. They had nothing to say because I told them I got a battery for $120 when they were telling me $315. The guy was like "oh." LOL. Thanks all!

Glad you got it sorted.

I only every go to the stealer if I really have to and then it may be for a part and that’s it.

I'm glad to hear that Optima batteries work fine for Audis. I have a 2007 S8. I'm going to search the rest of the forum for further information, but if anyone has direct personal experience with this, I would love to chat with you. Thanks in advance for anyone who sees this and can provide some feedback on usage and coding.
