VW Passat Dervice Interval display

I have a 2004 VW Passat Estate Diesel with long-life oil. The car was serviced at 15500 miles. At 18800 miles the indicator showed it needed servicing. I was told this was a false indication and the indicator was reset. My question is: when is the indicator going to show it requires servicing again? Is it based on the miles since the indicator was reset (say 18800 plus 15000 ish) or does it get its information from other sources. Thanks for any help. Mike

Long life oil should last approx 20k mls, but your car should have a sensor fitted in the sump which senses a drop in oil quality. So if its driven hard your service light will come on sooner than 20k.
So your service light might stay off untill 38k, or it may come on sooner, its all down to the way its driven.

9000 miles minimum and 19000 miles max or 730 days or thermal soot content of the oil,when the service indicator is reset via channel 2 these settings start calculating from that time.Also you can have 12months or 10,000 miles.
