Default 1985 golf alternator pulley problem ?

Just got this 1985 golf diesel 1.6 non turbo with a/c for my boy to drive. The alternator belt won't stay tight, getting eaten up. Looks the the pulley is too wide maybe the wrong one, so I order a new pulley for this application from allEURASIANauroparts INC . The new pulley sticks out so the the main wide v-belt would catch the alternator too, providing I get a longer belt...but how could I adjust this...or is this totaly wrong? Any help?

New to vw
Can't wait to get this on the road full time 50mpg was what I was told.

Thanks Chris

Ordered and installed correct pulley from dealer....fits the belt just fine....still seems to loosen up after just a few minutes of running----belt jumps/vibrates alot for being just a short belt????????
