New Rims

Looking to get a set of alloys and got the chance of some 18" rims, now the bit im not sure of,they are 112pcd x 8j x et43.

Would these go on a 1997 A4?

Yea no problem, you'll need a 225/40/18 tyre. They should go straight on.

5x112 = a4 a6 a8
5x110 = a3 tt

I am looking to buy rims and tires for my 2006 A4 2.0T Frontrack

one shop suggested a staggered set up. is this going to alter the handling of the car in any negative way?

Do you mean a bigger wheel diameter on the back compared to the front? Or the widths?
