1. I've got 17" rims with Bridgestone Potenza's fitted. They are wearing on the outer shoulder of the front tyres. Other than normal cornering wear, should this really happen or is there some alignment issues?

I am extra careful with tyre pressures so I know it isnt that!

2. With regards the tyre changing, do all four have to be changed at once or can two be done without damaging the drive systems?

my car came with perilli p-6's- all season. (so did my previous car). Didn't like them. I just got Kumho Ecsta ASA. I like the ride so far. I'm a sprited driver so I don't know how long the tread will last.

Be careful about changing tyres on a quattro system. Ideally all tyres should have about equal wear on them so that their circumfrences are equal as well. Otherwise, the system can be damaged due to the difference in speeds at which the tyres are spinning. Check with your mechanic (or Audi) before replacing tyres. They will tell what the tolerances (acceptable differences in tread depth) are that will not cause damage to the drive system.

Good luck!
