We have just purchased this car and were very surprized at the lack of performance (in town), on the open road, once you get going it is fine. The vehicle has done 86,000 miles, so I replaced the spark plugs and air filter - which all looked good, and added an additive to the fuel for the injectors. Not sure what else to do?

Since this problem may be caused by so many things, it would be good to get a vag-com and run a diagnose on the car. It may indicate where to look for the fault.

You may find it's the characteristics of the 1.8T.

I've driven the 192BHP and I own the 163BHP 1.8T A4.

The difference is, the 192 picks up alot quicker, where as my 163 is as you say, flat round town. I've had mine since new and now has reached 30k miles.

It got better when it passed 10k miles but still not pokey round bottom end.

Pop to an Audi garage and see if you can take one out to compare.

Coud try changing the HT leads too.

I have an A4 Cab 1.8T sport and find it very responsive at quite low revs. This engine actually produces peak torque at 1950 revs (166ftlb).
It may be that you have an air leak in the turbo pipes or the intake system which might give the wrong signals to the management system
