Engine Change

I just recently put an engine in a 1992 audi(2.8L v-6). This was a used engine with 80000 miles on it. When i started it the moter hestated but idled on its own. Then there was a pop when i gassed it and it sounds like it threw a rod or something. Now i know that the motor has some miles but it was running when it was pulled from an audi that'd been rear ended. I also know that it is not a popular engine either but... I was just wondering if there was something i missed that could destroy this motor. fluid levels all good. timing belt seems ok. cams properly aligned. Maybe something plugged in wrong.
