Q7 Disaster

Well its been one hell of a year in Audi hell. Bought a Q7 back in 2007 from Reitzel in Norwell (now called Audi of Norwell) leased it then bought out after the lease and just paid it off. In addition to paying the regular maintenance over the past lease period I also bought the extended warranty for three years 100,000,
Well surprising enough the engine blew at 91,000 and yep you guessed it they would not honor the Warranty as the time had expired. Brought it back to Audi in Norwell who told me $20,000 to put in a new engine. The problem started as the timing chain had snapped, destroyed the internal bolts which shuts down the engine. Did all the scheduled maintenance but the Dealership suggested to donate not worth fixing as the book value was only in the $10,000 range. Asked me to come into the showroom and pick another, ARE YOU CRAZY???? 90,000 miles and no re-course I am disgusted took me seven long years of $600 a month to pay this off. I wanted to keep this car with the hopes that since its a safe car my son could learn to drive in it in a few years. I am YELLING now as want to call out the dealership for screwing me over. they were not prepared to try and work with me. and to think I would walk back in and bang out $53,000 for another is nuts.
Now I am stuck trying to get an engine (of course mine was the regular emissions and all engines used on the market is the California emissions one) bought two used engines that do not work, my mechanic is now trying to disable the California emissions so the check engine light does not come on and this can pass inspection.
Sorry for venting, just wanted to highlight this problem if others have the same model and year. And to be honest Audi knows there is a problem with the timing chains on these vehicles if there was a recall on the timing chain they should have notified customers

Well my experience with a used Audi Q7 that I purchased from bigboytoyz is quite surprisingly amazing. We are staying in India for 2 years so we planned to buy a used Audi Q7 and hence we ended up buying a pre-owned one from Big Boy Toyz. The machine is working pretty fine despite being 3 years old. Maybe the model you purchased had some manufacturing defect.

This could be embarrassing for you to experience this kind of situation. I think this happens only in a rare cases. I think you should try to consult with other professionals on other forums like edmunds, surely they could grant you better ideas.

I am not surprised at all... I bought a Q7 new model in Mar 2016 in UAE. Within a month there were messages flashing frequently that the rear lights are at fault and should be taken for service. Over a period of 6 months this happened several times and the service guy would say it is a sensitive car and it would go away by itself. Then the screen would hand after completing a call on bluetooth. They ran "campaigns" (software updates?!) to fix it later. But it would recur. After about just an year, the AC failed and they replaced after a 15 day wait period with no standby car provided. As I started driving, I noticed the steering wheel had a vibration and there was a noise in the engine. Car was resent about 7 days back and guess what, they are replacing the fans and the steering rack assembly and it is with them for last 7 days...no standby car again... you do not believe it? I will soon share more details...All the best Audi owners
