Hi, my name is Z and I'm living in Arizona, USA. I'm german and in the german air force and will be living here till mid 2011 (we moved here 2007).
Right now I'm driving a 1999 Audi A8 4.2 Quatrro with 133K miles on it and I'm trying to get all information I need to take a newer A8 (2005-2006) back with me to germany. With Information I don't mean taxes,customs, paperwork (because all this doesn't apply to military members because of the NATO ) what I mean is everything I have to change on the car to drive it in germany according to our german laws and to make everything work in germany/EU (Navigation System, Radio, lights, etc.)

When you say taking a newer A8 back to Germany where do you intend to buy it from ? Would it not be just as cheap to buy one in Germany rather than ship and export one ??

Hi T-Sport,
I'll buy it here in the US. It's much cheaper here than in Germany or the UK or somewhere else in Europe.
I can get a nice A8 (years 2005-07) with something between 30K and 50K miles on it for round about $30K, and that's right now something like 21K EUR and the A8's here got most times more features/packages (massage seat, ventilated seats, comf packackge, convenience package, technology package, and so on).
I'm here with the military so when I buy a car and own and have it registered on my name for more than 6 month prior to my move back to germany and keep it longer than a year in germany, I don't pay any taxes or customs, and the move to germany itself is paid by the military because I get transfered by NATO orders, so I don't have any costs. I've just to pay for the costs to get the car ready for german streets (according to our laws).
I coming back home summer 2011.
