Fuel Pump Removal!!

Hello everybody, Im in need of a little input. Im in the middle of replacing my fuel pump on my 1990 V8 Quattro and have run into a little problem. I cant seem to remove the old fuel pump! As I reach my hand down to the pump, I try to twist it, pull it, push down twist and pull. None of that seems to be working. It feels loose and it twists for me and all, but it doesnt seem to come out for me. Can anybody help me out with this problem??? Thanks
