I was going to buy a 2000 Audi TT from the US and import it into Canada. When I phoned Audi they told me that I would have to make 2 modifications to do so. One being a bumper modification and Two being a Teather strap modification. Has anyone come across this before. Does anyone know how much modifications like this might cost. And does this have to be done prior to it coming to Canada or can it be done after. Your help would be appreciated

Hello,
I have an imported TT Roadster 2005 from Florida. A dealer did the mods and paperwork so I can only comment generally. In my case, two mods were done. 1) daytime running lights and 2) child seat attachment. In all other respects the car is up to Canadian specs. I'm told the mods were cheap, about $300, and were done in the US prior to importation. Extra tax is 6.1%. Audi dealers will work on the car but told me thay are considering a $1000 welcome tax for opening a file in the future since so many Canadians are buying cars in the US. |

You don't need to do the mods before bringing the car into canada. You have 45 days after crossing the border to get the necessary work done. The website for the Registrar of Imported Vehicles has helpful instructions on what needs to be done and when: Registrar of Imported Vehicles RIV: How to import a U.S made vehicle into Canada

I'm looking into buying a new 2008 TT in the U.S. and bringing it back to Canada, since it looks like the price is about $20K less. After figuring out the procedure, the only question I have is whether U.S. Audi dealerships will sell to a Canadian. The one I emailed in Montana said it's a condition of their franchise agreement with Audi that they not sell to Canadians. Does anybody know if this condition is just in the states along the Canadian border? Will dealerships farther south sell to Canadians?

As far as the teather strap, it's usually in the car. Sorry for the late reply, but I haven't been on the site for quite a while.....Cheers |
