How much should it cost?

Hi Audi people,

I think I need a new clutch! My usual reliable garage said it would be about 900 quid - aaargh!

It's a plain old 1.6 petrol A3 (8L) and I can get the clutch kit for about £100-120. Am I missing something or has the mechanic got the wrong model in mind?

Also, am I better off goinf to a clutch specialist type garage or do I stick with a garage that's proven itself trustworthy and relaible but will take longer and so cost more?

Lots of questions, I know, but this will probably be the single biggest spend on the car since I got it and I don't lik going into things blindly.

Thats the most exspensive 1.6 a3 clutch in the world.If it was the s3 model then its about right but yours only takes 3 hours to do,so say dealer labour rate £80 per hour and kit costs £120 THEN ITS SAFE TO SAY YOUR PANTS ARE BEING PULLED DOWN AND YOUR Y FRONTS STUCK ON YER HEAD.

Have got to the bottom of the problem: Garage was confused about which Mr A. they were talking to, my dad uses the same garage and they thought I was taking about his A4 - dual mass, widget sprung, gold plated clutch with panda fur lining!

Have got a new quote, below 400 quid fitted, that's better!
