Default Audi a6 no accelerator response

Can someone please advise me of a problem with my 1999 Audi A6 1.8 turbo petrol.Just back from my hols car battery was dead, a kind passer by tried to jump start the car but put jump lead cables on the wrong polarity.
Put them on the right terminals the car started great, but i have no accelerator response, the car will tick over great put your foot down on the accelerator the car dies.
Please can anyone help me as putting into an Audi garage would break my heart as well as my bank.

Hi. Does your car have a throttle cable or is it DBW?
