Default 2005 A6 Air cond problem

Occasionally, after driving with AC on at highway speed for at least an hour, the system will start blowing hot air out of the side and back seat vents. This has happened 3 times in the past 3 months. The last incident included blowing hot air out of all of the vents in 100 degree weather. When the car was stopped for about 10 minutes, and then re-started, the system worked properly.

I took it to the dealer last week and they could not find the problem; they expressed surprise that no "codes" were set in the computer. Of course, I was not happy about this, and when I asked what would happen if it continued doing this after my warranty is up (in 4 months), the rep said that I may be asked to "participate" in the cost of the repair.

I am unhappy on 3 accounts:
1- The AC is malfunctioning, causing serious discomfort.
2- The dealer can't find the problem.
3- I may be asked to pay for the fix, even though the problem has occurred under warranty.

Has anybody else experienced this problem ? Any advice ?

If this can't be resolved to my satisfaction, it would offend me sufficiently that I would never consider buying an Audi product again.

Thumbs up Quick Fix

I have this same problem with my '05 A6. A quick fix is to raise the temperature knob to "HI" for max heat for few seconds then lower it again to your desired temperature. You will get cool AC air coming out of your side vents again.

When I took it in for service, they said a "valve was sticking."

Replaced R&I Pump and Valve unit

Part #: 4F1-959-617-A Valve

Seems to be working fine now.

Your warranty should cover it.

Default

I had exactly the same problem with my a6 2005. Payed 250€ for the controller with etka code 4f1959617b + 42€ for the pump with valves + 200€ for work and diagnostics. It's OK now. But now in winter I have noticed that hot air is not blowing on rear seats, only cold air. I don't know if they messed something up or is this normal.
