Default A6 Engine Misfire

I'm new to this web forum, but I'm needing a little help. Generally, I work on my own vehicles but when in over my head, I usually go to a professional. I went to the local Audi dealership for my problem with my 1995, Audi A6 Quattro (AFC), Standard Transmission The engine had a slight miss. By the time they finished, it cost me $500 and the problem continues. That's a long story.

When I am driving down the road there is a slight miss. It is intermittent and a bit more pronounced under load -- when going up a slight incline. When this happens, if I accelerate fully, there is a very poor response, almost like the engine refuses to go any faster and hesitates. I think it is an electrical problem because when I turn the engine off (while driving) and then turn it back on, the missing stops. Then, maybe after a few miles, the engine light comes on again, and it starts to miss again. I can repeat this process. Every time, I turn off the engine, the missing stops for a while. That's what makes me think it is an electrical problem? Any suggestions? Things I might check? Thanks for your help.

One thing that produces this type of problem is worn plug wires or wires that are grounding on some part of the motor. Usually will idle o.k. but break down under acceleration. If the wire haven't been changed, I'd start there.

OK, Thanks. I'll give it a try.
