interior light problem

I have an '02 A6 Avant and when I open the driver's door, the interior light doesn't come on anymore. The interior light still works normally when opening the other 3 doors or rhe rear hatch.
I can not find the typcial button used on US autos.

Any ideas what triggers the interior light to turn on?

The interior light is triggered by a micro switch in the door latch mechanism.

Any idea how to get to it? I'm guessing through the interior panel....

Remove door trim panel, remove window frame, lock/latch is a sealed unit.
