Default It doesn't just rain.......various!!

Hi All - first post for a newbie here.

I own a late 2001 A6 avant sport quattro diesel, currently on 123,000miles.
For the first time in its history, I allowed a small independant to carry out an MOT and subsequent repair rather than the supplying audi dealer - outboard driveshaft gaiters, so fairly simple, and £130 versus £355!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Within a couple of weeks, I started to notice a slight knock/creak from the front offside under braking or acceleration. Two weeks later, the car was eating gravel on my drive - front offside spring. Audi had the car for a week and a half (awaiting part) having told my independant there was a 3 week wait.

Since having the car back, the knocking/creaking is worse (although some of this sounds as if it is coming from within the drivers door, and the rear wiper moves at a snails pace - previously fine! I would add regarding the rear wiper, that Audi replaced the rear screen a few months ago, and clearly left most of the broken glass within the tailgate.

Audi were non-commital regarding frequency/normality of springs breaking, and couldn't see that the earlier repair was related.

Can anyone shed any light on current issues, and ones leading up to current position, or even just to say all unrelated and quite normal on an older car.

Wow - an essay..............

Cheers

I had a 99 A6 which developed a creaking sound from the front wheel area. I was determined that the bushings in the control arms wer the cause. Seems that the A6 in that time frame was known to have this problem. Each wheel is quite expensive to fix. My dealer was aware of the issues and made me a package deal to do all of the bushings for a flat price which save @ $500 USD.
