having tranny problems

I have a 2000 a6 and I was headed to visit my father, about 45 minutes into the trip the tranny went into nutral and would no longer grab, when I pulled over I realized that all the fluid had leeked out, that I want to know is, if I fix the leek and refill the fluid will it be ok

UMMM...maybe? low fluid can cause the plates to slip and no engage. no fluid would make it so that the plates have no pressure to move. The thing is i have never heard of and audi dropping a trans. they are rock solid units.
