Looking to move car from Europe to US: Feasible

Originally from the US, I have a 2006 A6. Bought it in Switzerland, and want to consider taking it back when I return to the States. What does it take/cost to do whatever conversions are needed to meet US requirements? Has anyone done this? Can it be done? Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction to get answers. The dealer here in Switzerland where I bought it is useless.

You might want to avoide CA as they have very tight smog laws which you might find your car would fail although I'm told it's the cheapest place to send a car too.

You will also have to pay import duties at what ever price that may be on top of everything else but yes you can import cars.
