Default newbe with no lights on dashboard!

hi,
just bought a 95' A6 estate tonight.
cant seem to get the dash to light up though. the warning lights and that come on when you start her up, but i can see my speedo/rev meter etc in the dark when driving. i assume they should just come on when the headlights are switched on?!

is this an audi'ism i dont know about?- is there a dimmer switch or something hidden away?

or do i have a fuse blown somewhere?

thanks for any help you can give.
cheers.

The dash lights should work.

The button that is near the tach on the left adjusts the dash lights - just turn the kights on and twist the button to see if they come on -

If they don't you'll need to replace the bulbs . A search of the internet for "audi instrument pannel lights " should get you what you need. A number of sites give simple instructions as to how to take the dash apart - it is easy - and the bulbs run between $1 and $5 depending upon who you get them from. The bulbs are not available at your local parts place because the base is special. If you have lost them all you'll need about 8 of them. I did all the bulbs in my dash in about an hour and all I needed was a phillips screwdriver and pair of long nosed pliers to help me get the bulbs in and out. Audi will do the job for you, but it will cost $100 plus and take a day.
