Car switches into Tiptronic by itself!
My 2004 A4 just had the Transmission Control Module (TCM) replaced. For the first 30 minutes of driving upon getting my car back, it felt great. However, it then automatically switched itself into Tiptronic mode while the gearshift was still in regular "D" drive mode. All of a sudden the numbers came up on the dash (signifying tiptronic) and the car slammed back as I was maxing out whatever gear I was in (thinking I was in automatic and therefore not shifting up) because it had suddenly switched itself (by some internal malfunction) into tiptronic.
It scary, unpredictable and seems to happen sporadically and only once the car is warmed up. I can be driving the car throughout the day and it may only happen a few times.
The only way to get it back into normal automatic mode is to flip the gearshift into tiptronic and then back into automatic drive.
When the maintenance people at the dealership take the car for a "road test" they have been unable to replicate it.
This never happened before they replaced the TCM, so I'm guessing it's either a malfunction in the TCM or the way they hooked it up. However, there are no warning lights on.
Please advise.
