Default A4 Ignition Coils

I bought a 2004 A4 1.8T last summer and love it. In February of this year, I went on an 1800 mile road trip. A couple of weeks after my return, one of the coils went and had to be replaced. Was this a coincidence, or is it very common? Should I carry a spare coil in case one blows out in the boondocks?
