I have a 2002 A4 Quattro - with tiptronic and it recently started vibrating. It only seems to happen when I press on the gas pedal, if i take my foot off of the gas pedle the vibration goes away. It happens mostly at higher speeds or at least i can't notie it as much at lower speeds. I thought the vibration was due to a bad 1/2 axle (right front) so i replaced it. It seemed to fix the problem for a about 1/2 a day but the vibration has come back. I have also noticed that when I'm at a stop light, the car seems to have a slight vibration as well. If i put the car into nuetral the vibration stops or goes away. Does anyone have any idea what might cause this?
Please help. |

I replaced my left front 1/2 axle and the engine mounts which took care of the shudder/vibration while driving down the road. I still have a slight vibration when I'm at a stop light. I'm going to replace the spark plugs this weekend with the hope that it will fix the problem.

Hey,
I have a 2004 S4, with 62K miles. I experienced a slight vibration when making a turn either left or right. I took the car to the dealer and they replaced the left and right 1/2 axle.. This did not fix the problem. I took the car back right away. They put chasy ears on the car and said it was either the torque converter or transmission. Since this is a warranty issue, they would not fix it because they were not 100% sure ht it was. they said i would have to wait until the vibration to get worse. Well 6 months later the problem is a ittle worse. i am now in california, and hope the dealers here will be able to diagnose the problem. If you have had any new information i would like to here what happened. Like wise i will let you know what the dealer finds out as well. If anyone else has had this problem let us know. Thanks~ Sean |

Hey 310S4guy,
So in the end I replaced both front 1/2 axles (turned out the left 1/2 axle inner boot was the problem). I did not use OEM parts... japenese parts. The shudder has gone away while driving however, I still experience a slight vibration while stopped and in gear. If I put the car into nuetral while stopped, the vibration goes away. So it seems only when the car is under load (in gear) the vibration occurs. My RPMs are the same in gear and in neutral so I don't think it's the torque converter or transmission. I'm going to have the transmission fluid changed and see if that helps. Let me know if you got your problem fixed or diagnosed yet... You say you're in California now. where about? I'm in Oakland. |
