Default please help!!!

I just recently lost the undercarriage engine sheild on my 97 A 4 2.8 Quattro....was is the purpose of this shield, and do i need to replace it?? thanks

It's just to keep junk from getting up under there. It's not necessary, many cars, usualy older ones, don't even have these plastic covers. I'm guessing it's going to be pretty expensive from the dealership, I probably wouldn't bother getting a new one unless it's a good deal.
