Code Reader

This is my first post. I now own a 2002 A4 3.0 by marriage. I'm not terribly familiar with the car. Changing the oil last weekend was the first bit of maintenance I've done.

The car is due for it's emissions inspection next month and in Connecticut that now means a check engine light is an automatic failure. A number of mechanics (dealer & others) have had no luck keeping the check engine light off after an accident a year or two ago.

I need to get a code reader that is able to reset the error codes so that it at least stays off for a short wile. I also need to know where it would plug in. If I'm going to invest in a code reader I want to get something that will also be helpful diagnosing and correcting future problems so I don't just want to reset the computer.

All that said, is there a clear leader for computers for this car and a best place to buy one? I'd love to get any education you all can offer on this topic.

Just ordered, Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, they don't have US version of the service manual working on MS Vista yet so I may be back with some "how to" questions once I get the error codes.
