Default audi a4 v6 quattro issue ?

Hi Guys,

Have a issue with the Audi you guys might be able to help me with as new to Audi's so dont all the ins and outs just yet.

Have bought a A4 2.6 V6 QUATTRO and all was well but now there seems to be a noise coming from the engine like a constant whinning noise and if you move the steering wheel it gets louder, once the car has been driven and is warm the noise is much lower and almost inaudible ? The Audi has completed 100K with FSH and also when cold slightly jumps revs between 1200 - 1500rpm is this related ?

I am going to top up the hydraulic fluid later today as just finished nightshift.

Any ideas or has anyone had the same issue ?

thanks.

Gurj

Have you checked your power steering pump as a likely culprit ??

Thanks for your reply bud,

Have considered it may well be the pump, when the car gets warm it gets less loud but when cold kinda makes a loudish noise, how can i check its deffo the pump ?

Also any ideas how much it would cost to fix ?

thanks

Daft as it seems i checked the power steering hydraulics dam and it seemed ok but low so filled it to the top with the right stuff and the sound has completely gone, went to see my mechanic anyways and he says the sound would have been the pump trying to get the oil through but not getting any !! and if it was left too long would eventually ruin the pump too

So we caught it in time
