Vehicle Speed Control Issue -Accelerator Pedal

I have a 2003 A4 1.8T and try to take care of my car meticulously. I do the regularly scheduled maintenance (mostly recent in early November for an instrument panel replacement and 60,000 regularly scheduled maintenance). Since then, I drive my vehicle about once per week and drove one weekend for a longer distance out of town, all without incident. I drove it again this past weekend on Saturday 12/1, and had a really scary experience.

As I was driving on the highway and accelerated to about 65 mph, the gas pedal would lift slightly away from my foot (like I just turned on cruise control, but I had not touched the cruise at all) and when I lifted my foot completely away from the pedal, it would stay steady at 65 mph. I braked to slow the car down, and the car would slow as long as my foot was on the brake, but once I let off the brake, the car would maintain the lowered speed. This happened several times and I felt that I had little control over the acceleration/deceleration of the car. At one point, I slowed the car down completely to a stop and had my foot on the brake, the car was still in drive and though my foot was on the brake, the RPM's were still around 2000. I immediately put the car into park and the Tach revved up to between 4500 - 5000 rpm, as if the gas had been pushed. I tapped my foot on the gas a few times lightly and the gas pedal seemed to come unstuck and the car went back to idle. I turned the car off and pumped the gas pedal a few times, seemed smooth and springing back as usual, so I cautiously drove home. Drove two other times on the following day for short distances, didn't seem like there was a problem, but I didn't go over 35 mph either.

The only thing I could find on this problem was a recall a few years ago on A6 which had a problem with the throttle being stuck in cold weather because of ice formation, so I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

Check the multi plug in the engine e box compartment as water ingress can cause a resistive circuit to alter the 5 volt signal wire for throttle position,and also check the cruise wiring for resistive/short to + and -.Connect vag com first and see if any codes are stored.

Thanks for your reply, I will get it hooked up to the comp and see what comes up. Drove it several times this past weekend and no problem, so maybe it was water, hopefully....
