CHeck your fuses on the side of your driver column, (open driver door and look on the side of your dash). Look up the appropriate fuse in your manual under "fuses" section. Or you could have just burned out the bulbs, there are three screws in your trunk (plastic), remove them to access the back of your break lights, check the bulbs.

Any thing else like a ABS light on all the time. Could be a brake switch. I have a 2004 A6 and I got a ABS and another corresponding light and the brake lights havent worked since it happened. Today i ordered a brake switch for $30 and will change it out. I do need to know if any one else has experienced this and if you know how hard or special tricks to changing the switch. I believe it should be fairly simple, hardest part should be taking the lower dash apart. My other alternative would be to drive two hours to Bellevue and take it to a dealer.

Why yes I actually did check my bulbs and FUSES!!! I bought a $30 dollar brake switch and followed the very good directions someone posted on replacing the switch.
It took me longer to remove the lower dash than to replace the switch. I've got to say you need to follow those directions or you will be purchasing another switch. It took me two minutes to pull the old switch out and put the new one in.The best part of the whole deal is it is now fixed and I didnt have to travel two hours to a dealer nor pay excessive $$$ to get something fixed that took twenty minutes. ![]() |
