Default Rs4 Power Problems

Hi All,

I have an RS4 which intermittently gives full power 460bhp & low power (less than standard 380 i think)
It doesn’t make any difference how warm the car or day is.
I am systematically running through every sensor & option using the work shop manual.
Has anyone had similar or same problems in which they have rectified which may help?

First have you checked the MAF as these are a common problem on the S4 & RS4.

Next check for leaks and maybe drop in some new sparkplugs or at least check the gapping. I would also check when the last time a Fuel filter was replaced as these can get blocked up and cause running issues and one last thing replace the coolant sensor as these can throw up strange power loss problem and will do it intermittently.

Have you VAGCOM'ed the car as this will show you any faults that may be there.

Hi,

Thanks for that, my friend has a VAG 1550 which i bought when I first got the RS4 6 years ago & find it very good for checking for faults.
I haven’t changed the fuel filter before or the coolant temperature sensor so will do that this weekend.
I am picking up the air flow meter today & the exhaust temperature sensors as bank 1 is showing a short to earth on the 1550 but when I do a manual test with a multi meter as per the ELSA manual, it’s clear.
I am going to start using the VAG.COM. later today when I pick up the lead
I am not going to rule out more than one problem as the car has had odd problems which I have not resolved over the last year & then more strange intermittent problems have occurred. Now I’m not going to give up until if necessary each sensor is changed one by one. Thanks again, see how this weekend goes.
