Engine woes.

Folks,

I think I'm getting the run round from the local garage can you help.
Five weeks ago my A4 TDI (110ps) ate it's own engine. Garage quoted a huge sum of money for a rebuild and an even larger sum of money for a short engine to drop in. I found one in Cardiff and after much waitting around I finally got an engine a few weeks ago. Garage starts off saying it's fine - then switch to "It's off a golf or something it doesn't fit." Bloke in Cardiff says it will - garage says it wont. Who's right? I thought all VW/Audi engines were pretty interchangable esp the 1.9TDI. . . .
Answers please before I reach for the lawyers.

Hello jim,passat and a4 ok not sure about golf.Labour time for engine remove and reinstall about 12 hours.Golf has completly differant mounting asembly,but as iam not sure try audi parts and ask if the block is the same.Sorry i couldnt be 100%
