Question Service Interval & Timing Belt

Hi folks.
I have only had my 2001 A4 for 5 weeks ( my first audi ) and am not to sure of the service interval.
the book says every 15,000 km's ( around 10,000 miles ) unless it has the longlife service then it is every 20,000 miles. Is that right.
My car has been audi serviced every 20,000 miles ( longlife service ) right up to present mileage and isnt due until another 10,000.

There is no mention of timing belt having been replaced in the service book, and with the mileage of the vehicle being 101,000 miles i thought i shall replace this very shortly to be safe. Looking through my service book it Quotes...
" Every 180,000km ( 115,000 miles ) Toothed belt for camshaft drive replaced ( 4-cylinder 5V 2.0 ltr petrol engines ).

This must be a misprint. surely the timing belt should be changed long before 115,000 miles.

Does anyone know the score with any of this.

Thanks for all your time audi fans.

GOGS ( 2001 A4 2.0 SE )

On the right hand side of your dash there is a small button with a spanner on it. Press this and it will tell you how long before your next service.
Generally the service interval counts down from about 20000 miles. It counts down quiker the harder you drive. I normally get about 16000 between services.
As for the cambelt, mine is a 1.8t and I think the interval is 115000 miles

Cheers Speary mate.

Yes found the spanner button and it isnt due for about another 320 days or around 10k.

Just was very surprised at the 115k timing belt.
They must be very confident at that high mileage.

Does anyone change it before that distance or is it to be trusted and at 6 years old would audi come good if it was to break and cause damage.

Cheers pal.

Gogs..

The 320 days is the time due before a brake fluid change.
You should change it every 2 years as it absorbs water from the air and if it gets too much in it the fluid could boil under very hard braking thus giving you no brakes

No it is not. The Sevice Interval Display has nothing to do with brake fluid change!

The Service Interval Display indicates . . . . yes, the days and / or the miles until the next service is due, which ever comes sooner.

So in the OPs instance, he is due a service within 320 days, or 10k miles - whichever happens sooner!

Default Timing Belt

Ref the timing belt question I would certainly suggest earlier rather than later replacement.

I have just had the belt go on by 1998 A4 at 75k miles with the service manual stating replacement at 80k. An initial call to Audi Customer Service was less than helpful stating that the manual was 'only a recommendation'.

From looking at honestjohn.com this is a apparently a known problem with my A4 model. Any suggestions on how people have tackled this problem before ref getting compensation would be appreciated.

BTW apparently the only way to get the car back on the road will be to get a replacement engine.
