In spite of looking in every forum and technical support group and in spite of calling Dension product support, I was able to get only an ambiguous answer to what I thought was a very basic question: Will the in-dash CD changer in my SII still work if I install an IceLink?

The answers I found ranged from No to Maybe to Yes But You'll Lose Your Sat Capabilities. My IceLink was installed today (cradle in glove box in top-right CD slot) and I am delighted to report that everything (and that includes Sat) still works. The in-dash changer is accessed by a single push of the CD button and the iPod by two pushes; CDC mode which I finally interpreted as CD Changer. The Sat input is still available if I ever want it.

To me, this is the best of all possible worlds and erases forever any doubt that I might have had about selecting the A4 over the Volvo V50. Vive l'iPod!

This is great news!! I was just looking for that information. I have the 2005 A4 (the one with the new front grille) with Symphony II with the in-dash 6 CD changer and I wanted to connect an iPod exactly as you described it, in the glove compartment.

I have one question: Where did you go to have the IceLink device installed?
I'm thinking of buying iPod, IceLink and installation at Best Buy.
Any recommendations?

Thanks,
-Gianluca.

I have to say that fitting the ICE>Link is a very easy job... you may wish you hadn't paid someone to do it.

There is a small piece of wiring harness which plugs in to the back of the HU. Your existing wiring harness plugs in to that, as does the ICE>Link gadget. There is a single black wire which needs to be grounded - clip it to the metal body of the HU. All other plugs stay as they are. You then need to connect up the iPod connector lead to the ICE>Link itself and you are done. You can either fit the iPod into the glove box, or run the wire to a Brodit ProClip mount and plug your iPod in wherever you want, depending if you ahve got the cradle version or the simple lead and dock connector.

That's it. No fuss, no bother. Very easy.

If you need ICE>link configuration files or firmware upgrades, check on the left hand side here:

And yes, internal CDC works, factory fit phone works, DIS works... it all works :-)

Sorry this has come so late after your initial enquiry.

Thanks for the feedback Halgernon!!!

This is really GREAT news!!! For so long,..I've read that it's impossible to install both the Ice Link adapter and have Satellite radio on an 2005.5 A4.

But just to make sure I buy the right one,...can I buy this adapter and have both satellite radio and the ipod work?

Thanks again!!!!!

If you want to keep SAT radio you have to add some custom wires. See AudiWorld Tech Articles for details.
