Default Reliability of A6 2006

Any 2006 A6 Audi owners could you please chime in?
I have never bought/owned an Audi before but I love the look of the Audi A6. I was hoping to hear your feedbacks about the car. I've heard some horror stories of having to run to the dealership for multiple minor electrical glitches for the 05 A6. (First gen)
Is that just a rumor?

Please let me know

Thanks in advance

to be more specific, did anyone have problems with ignition coils being short?
or frequent check engine lights?

on the v engines the coil packs have been known to falter but not as common as the original issue with the 1.8 turbo vag engine

Good choice, very good engine and no real issues to be concerned about if any at all.The coil packs can fail but there pretty reliable,if they do fail replace them all in one go.

Default similiar question ...a8_tech?

Hi ,
My Audi , 2006 A6 3.2 Quattro is going off lease this December. (under 30,000 miles) I absolutely LOVE this car and have had ZERO problems with it. The issue at hand is ; Would it be a wise choice to buy this vehicle for the residual of around $24,000? It will have a full year left on the Audi (all-inclusive) Warranty. I have mixed feelings because of some horror stories I read here about high maintenance and repair costs. I was considering a extended warranty for 5 yrs and 85,000 miles (bumper to bumper) but they run around $3000+.

Can anyone enlighten me ?

I probably can't enlighten, but I can provide my data points.

Well, I have a 2006 A6 3.2 Quattro which I purchased Off Lease in March 2007. I paid $34K in the Boston market. It had 20K miles and was manufactured in January 2006.
I've put 30K miles on it since then, I'm now at 50K. I've used the warranty maintenance service and put no money into the car other than a new set of tires and wiper blades. Service has been covered.

When I was considering a purchase, I posed the question of repair costs. The point was made at the time that the silent majority of people are not having problems and not posting here. Only those who have an axe to grind get around with their comments. So far, that has born out as true for me.

No extended warranty for me. I am NOT a demanding driver, so I don't expect to have many issues, and my 35 years of driving history, that has always been the case. I went with Quattro because I'm a big east coast skier and it performed quite capably this past winter.

I had considered purchasing a MB, but the the $10K differential left me with a big chunk of savings, some of which might be used.

Consider also finding non-dealer service. I found a fellow, formerly with a dealer who is just as capable, more reasonable, and about 60% of the dealer service price.

As you can see, I'm not a gearhead or car nut, I just drive, fairly conservatively, commute, ferry family around and hit the mountains (on-road) often. Consider the source

Hope this helps.
