If you have an Audi AMI retrofitted this shouldn't be a problem as this gets updated too.

Why would they update the MMI for the problem with the DVD drive not reading?

The MMI software does not contain any SW for the NAV unit, only the NAV disk has SW on it that updates the NAV UNIT. So only a newer disk than your existing one would update any SW in the NAV UNIT.

My suspicion is the NAV UNIT DVD drive, so I would replace that under warranty and also eject the disk and check for scratches, they are known for damaging disks.

Because after any work on MMI (including navigation) software levels are checked and updated as required. Not sure why they think it will cure the navigation problems though as craigyb says!!

I don't believe that any dealer updates the MMI unless there is a known issue that an update will fix.

Believe what you like it happens and updates, if required, are suggested on every self diagnosis for all systems.

I update every vehicle i work on either svm or cd rom, currently there is no need to go through all the cdroms as one disc does all and zug bus levels are brought to the latest sw version (5000s) even b8 a4 and a5.WARNING TO ALL,BE AWARE,UPDATES CAN DAMAGE THE PHONE CONTROL UNITS AND BY BYPASSING THE TELEPHONE CONTROL UNIT (MOST REPEATER INSERTED INTO THE MOST NETWORK)THEN IT WILL BE OK.Dont forget if you update yourselfs please inform the dealers so the new software versions can be sent to the server as they wont recognise your software versions for future updates which by the way will be online only as is the same with control unit replacement as well as online componant protection.Certanly a5 and a4 it will be useless codeing with vag com as hex coding and most adaptions can only be overriden by a manual action online code.

am i undestanding what you say , that audi may think the car is on a earlier software because it was upgraded when the ami is fitted, the fault on the nav by the way is (2006 oem) , it display loading 5%... the reports change disk, i have a 2007 copy disc and this wont load either
