Hi
Just got one of the first A6 SE C6's 2.0 TDI (Dec 04). When I bought it, the tank was half full of petrol. Drained everything and filled up with clean diesel. Have about 20-30 miles on it now, runs fine when going but is very smoky when started first and a stron smell of diesel. Have replaced all filters with genuine audi. Spoke to a couple of tech guys over here and they thell me to run the car for 1-2 weeks before the effects of the petrol ware off. Then call and they will check the codes and reset any if necessary. Dose this sound right? Many Thanks |

ignoring the fuel issue, this earlier 4f a6 2.0 tdi suffered from coolant loss due to cracked cylinder heads(cylinders 1,4)and white smoke from start up was the tell tale sign.Fuel side allow two full tanks before further investigation.

Coolant leavel seems steady but not enough milage to know if it's droping. Drained tank with siphone then put an electrick fuel pump on the fuel pipe going to the filter, ran till empty, this should have emptied both tanks? What do you think of the effect of petrol on the engine, could it take a few hundread miles to clear?

Almost every enginge component had a fault code, had all codes reset. Only one to come back was a misfire on a cylinder, then it cleared. Car running slightly better. Still awfull smell of diesel from exhaust & white smoke at startup. Ordered set of glow plugs, have arranged to get fuel test done (pump & injectors) and compression test.

Pressure test coolant system to 1 bar overnight and start in morning this should force the coolant leak into the cylinders if it is leaking on cylinders 1 and 4 (there should be lots of white smoke and lumpy running if this is the case)also removing the exhaust manifold and looking into the cylinder head via the ehaust ports should reveal coolant around the valves or look at the turbo/manifold for signs of burnt coolant.
