MMI problem

Hi
Just got one of the first A6 C6's (Dec 04) the MMI flash on the screen for about 5 seconds the off. Any idea what needs to be done to reset it?

If its crashing there is a fault on th MOST BUS network system and by starting the car you are waking the bus up and its crashing because one of the control units is defective or light output from the fibre optics has been reduced.Other possible faults are electrical feed to one of the control units or damaged (spilt fluid on the mmi controls.)If you have vag com you can test the most network and isolate your fault,if not off to the dealer as most indi workshops will struggle with the diagnosis of this system.Can you think of anything failing ie telephone or cd multichanger as these are the most common failures.You can reset the mmi by refering to the hand book it will tell you which mmi control buttons to press and release(set up,knurled button and soft touh key).

Have only just got the car so don't know history only that it was half full of petrol when I got it (other Post you answered). I will try and reset the MMI before taking it to the VAG dealer.

Found a unit (motorola) under carpet under passenger seat the is water damaged. Have found one on eBay with the same part number. Have checked all other units with fiber inputs and they look OK.
