I'm looking to change my current A4 for an A6 or Allroad and am having difficulty getting clear advice from my dealer on mobile phone requirements.
All I want is a Bluetooth connection and the facility to charge my phone. Simple ? No. I was originally advised to go for the Coms Pack 2 and if I wanted to charge the phone I should go for a cradle that fits into the arm rest for an extra £100. Today I'm being told that there have been problems getting the Bluetooth to function reliably ( problems with the phonebook ) , that I need to pay a further £250 to guarantee a proper Bluetooth function and also that with this system there is no charging cradle available. So it's either an extra £250 on top of what I was told would give me Bluetooth and no charging facility or go with the original suggestion , get the phone charged but keep my fingers crossed the Bluetooth works. My phone is a very old Nokia 6310i , which did pair with the demonstrator , but which I'm going to upgrade to an Audi friendly one when I get the car. |

6310 is very audi friendly and no issues with the cradle.Ask the parts department to supply you with the phone list from audi desktop it was last updated in febuary and has all compatabil tested phones and firm ware versions required plus some links phone providers websites. The phone list will help you determine your requirements without the confusion of sales fools or deceptionists. Also google audi bluetooth and there are loads of sites that cover pairing options and retro fit.

I'm guessing they are suggesting you upgrade to the SAP profile phone system that doesn't require a cradle or use your phone to make calls, hence the battery saving. Basically it clones your phone over bluetooth and then shuts down the GSM section so your battery is not used. The "car" is then the phone using the roof antenna for better reception etc. It's an excellent bit of kit as you can receive texts on it as well.
However it has some drawbacks, linited amount of phones support SAP, mainly Nokias and Siemens Benq, some PDA phones do as well now. Texts received stay in the car, not the phone when received in the car, a bit annoying. Personally I have the SAP system as it allows me to use my N95 and get full phone book transfer etc and not waste the very short battery life that it has. Quote:

Sorry to hijack your thread but I'm interested in retrofit a bluetooth solution in my A6 Avant 2008. Currently I'm looking at the smallest (cheapest) solution from kufatec.de. The one with only bluetooth and no antenna. Is this a good solution. Don't need the SAP-functions just want handsfree.

I have Comms Pack 2 in my A6, and it works fine with my Samsung D900, giving full access to phonebook etc.
It also worked OK with my D600 before that, although I couldn't access the phonebook. I do not have the charge cradle in the armrest - I just use an in-car charger from the rear powerpoint, and put the phone in the armrest. You can't even see the cable, the phone remains fully charged, and I have perfect bluetooth performance through the car speakers and MMI high screen - I can even use the colour DIS to access all the features on the phone.

I was told by my dealer both Blackberry Pearl and 8800 won't work with SAP in A6, however I find them both working fine including transfer of the address book.
It looks like the salesman at Audi tend to say it won't work if they are not knowlegable on the subject, seems the easiest option, not sure how productive though. |

They will not be using SAP, the SAP kit can work in normal mode as well as SAP mode.
Look at the display of MMI, what symbol do you have next to the signal strength meter. SIM symbol = SAP mode (car is making calls, battery not used) Phone symbol = Normal mode (phone is making calls battery used)
