I took delivery of my new A6 2.0tdi SE just over three weeks ago, already done 2900 miles! I'm generally happy with the car but I am a bit dissapointed with the general "harshness" of the engine. It seems to make more noise and vibrate more than the demonstrator I tried before I ordered it. Its certainly much harsher and noisier than my previous car's engine (Renault 1.9dci) I feel a definite vibration through the pedals and seat just below 2000rpm and again at around 2300 rpm, dependant on engine speed rather than road speed so I don't think its wheel balance, defo seems to be the engine. Its also much lumpier and more "diesely" than the Renault was at idle.
Are they all like this (apart from the demonstrator!) or should I be worried? Is it likley to improve with miles? Is there, for instance, a "running in mode" in the engine management mapping that will change after a certain mileage? |

no worries, welcome to the unit-injector diesel! it's normal, unit-injectors operate at higher injection pressures then common-rail (like your previous Renault). Higher pressure typically means more noise (and some vibrations), but it also means more power....
