Cool A6 Oil usage?

Hello, How much does a Audi A6 estate (new model!) go through in oil?
Its a diesel Injection.
I would appreciate it if someone could answer soon, as a colleague is claiming £60 for oil per month!
Thanks

I have a new A4 with the 2.0 TDI engine, and so far have used less than a litre in 6K miles. I have a numbers of work colleagues also who have VaG cars with the same engine and none of them are reporting heavy oil consumption. I know that there are regular discussions regarding heavy oil useage on VaG diesel and petrol engines, but I have not come across anyone, 'in the flesh' who have had this problem. My experience so far is about a litre between services on my old 1.9 TDI and it now looks as though my new car will go the same way. Anyone who is using a gallon of oil a month should get their dealer to look for other problems such as turbo seals etc.

I'd like to shime in regarding the oil consumption.

I had an A6 Avant 2.4 2000 that drank alot of oil (more than 1L/1000km ~ 1L/600miles). It went so far that I returned it to the dealer and bought a 1.8Turbo instead. Some of the older 2.4 V6 had a known problem with large oil consumtion. I dont know if they ever managed to fix it. They tried to modify my engine but it gave no result. The later 2.4 V6's don't have this issue. The 1.8 Turbo drank no oil at all. Great engine but a bit buzzy for this large car.

I have heard of others that have had the same experince and others that had no problems at all with that engine.

.50litres per 1000 miles driven mostly motorway and some urban is the guide line for consumption.Audi engine are designed to cover half a million miles and so engineered for wear in the lower mileage hence most regard run in mileage to be in excess of 60,000 miles. Also correct grade oil is a must,if you top up with normal multigrade then this will also alter the service calculation for soot content. If you require a oil consumption test you will have to pay the dealer until the results are found.Firstly the oil is drained and the new measured oil is weighed and inputed into the diagnostic 5051,then the vehicle must cover 1000 miles without top up and returned for the oil to be drained and weighed again to calculate oil consumption use.
