I get this message if I press the right hand steering wheel 'barrel' button when I am not using the NAV facility (i.e. I have not entered a route). This is DVD nav on a 2006 A6..

You have definitely selected 'start route guidance' haven't you, after programming your destination?

thanks for your reply - it is 2005 dvd nav
- the problem is that my satnav does not appear to pick up my current position - when I go to nav-info I get the nav not active message, but more interestingly it says that it receives signal from 5 - 11 satellites.
Even if I enter a route and actually drive it does not change my position on the map (I have checked the settings and chosen "current position" map option) any thoughts as to what the problem may be? many thanks

The only other thing I can imagine is that it is still in 'demo' mode. If you go into settings (i.e when in navigation, press the bottom right 'hard' button labelled Settings), and scroll through the options. Make sure you're not in 'demo mode', as this always shows a pre-determined route, regardless of your actual location.

If this is not the problem, I'm out of ideas I'm afraid.

Cheers

Paul

Hi,
If your car is a 2005 model, it is still under manufacturer's warranty.
Let them sort it out, and you can then share with all of us what they have found was wrong with it.

It was bought in Germany, and as such is only subject to a 2 yr warranty (which run out in mid June this year - when the problems started...)

dear all,

the problem was with my map version not being compatible with the MMI software version – apparently the new 2007 Europe DVD map SW 1030 (4E0 919 884 AL – audi part No.) does not work well (the route is calculated, but the arrow freezes - the GPS data is correct.)with the MMI 2120 or lower (my is 1200), so I need to either upgrade my MMI to 2120 or 3460 or get the most recent SW1040 (4E0 919 884 AS – Audi No.) Europe 2007 map, which was kindly offered by Audi for GBP300 – for the time being I went back to my old 2005 map - works fine

Rgds,
B

Yes there is a software update solution for this that the dealer can carry out to update the mmi via the 6 disc cd changer,it takes about 1 hour and also other systems will be up dated as well.
