Multitronic or steptronic?

Hello, i am interested in the new A6 avant but i don't quite understand the difference between the 2 gearboxes.
Is the Multitronic an automatic mechanical as DSG or SMG?

there mulitronic or tiptronic
mulitronic is the CVT transmission which i here have some problems and u cant get quattro with it, but it is smoother and saves more gas

the Tiptronic is just a basic automatic

they are nuthin like the DSG and SMG, they have clutches and the TIp and multi do not

Actually the Multitronic does have a clutch

What kind of clutch? Is it mechanical like the DSG, SMG?
