Default a little help please....i'm new

Just picked up an 04 a6 quattro 2.7T 6spd.
Curious as to where and what to mod for as far as performance and handling. I'm new to Audis (this is my first) and am not sure where they are good and where they lack so any advice or website suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cody

Hey Cody

First thing would be an ECU flash (chip). Bumps the power from 250HP to around 320HP (depending on which chip you choose). Next I would suggest a drop-in highflow filter. Most of the CAI out there are way to expensive and the gains between a drop-in and a CAI is so little it's a waste of money IMHO. Unless you are looking for the looks. Get yourself a set of Bosch 110s to replace the stock diverter valves and you would nto have to worry about them for a long while. Have mine in the car for 3 years with no issues. Or if you have money to blow... get yourself some billet valves... again a opreference thing.

If your car came with the sport package, your suspension will be much better than a non-sport model. As you have the 6spd I would assume you do. The weird thing is that I thought they stopped the 6spds when they brought out the S-Line in 2004. Maybe yours was before that though. anyway... If you don't have the sport suspension I hear that thicker swaybars make big improvements in the handling on these cars. .. there's a lot of weight to control... she has a BIG @ss... As far as springs and shocks... all the usual suspects H&R, Eibach etc...

You can start here... http://www.VAGLinks.com

I do have the sports package, sports seats as well and I do want to do the ecu chip first but wasn't sure if apr or tmtuning chips were better or if there are more out there. I can assure you its a 6spd and a 2004 though. Also, I pretty much know what I wanna do I'm just not sure what the best brands for the ecu chips, air filters, bi pipes, and such are the way to go.

Hey Sleepr

Please note I am no guru and many of these comments are purely based on personal preference and opinion...

Yeah as far as chips go... this has been discussed to death and you will basically never get a "clear" answer as we all have preferences etc...

I decided on the GIAC as it offers aggressive HP and the drivability is great. Some might disagree and some say that the GIAC maps are to aggressive and will cause premature turbo failures etc. I have had it in the car for a couple of years now and love it. Not that the other vendors don't have as good or better products, but I can only comment on what I have...

APR as far as I know offerd a Bi-pipe. This is an investment I would personally make when I can find one for a bargain. From what I was told by my tuner shop the next best thing after a chip is probably the intercoolers and then downpipes and exhaust. AWE Tuning makes great intercoolers, but they are not cheap. There are also some other smaller vendor out there now that make ICs for the 2.7T. I've been looking at these guys ... Innovative Performance Products Theirs is not as large as the AWE guys, but is larger than stock and RS4 ICs and less than half the price. Another plus is not body modifications are required. On eBay there's been a few "Chinese" versions popping up, but if you compare the core sizes and charge rows these are pretty much stock sized aluminium version. I was thinking of fabbing these myself so I read up a bit on the IC designs etc, and where the AWE ones shine is the fact that their total surface area is great and they have more charge rows. I have yet to find a blank core that has as many rows for that size. Not sure where they get their cores from... wish I did...

As far as Downpipes, bi-pipes and exhaust manifolds... AWE has the best Exhaust manifolds from what I've read... very expensive though... By-pipes is APR Down-pipes is APR not cheap either... There are some OBX exhaust manifolds on eBay lately for around $300 which appear to be good quality, but I know of nobody who has installed them so I am not sure about the fitment and quality. A much cheaper alternative is VAST Performances Piggy pipes, which is a stock downpipe with better cats etc. I will personally probably go this route next. I got my APR exhaust off eBay for around $600 which was pretty much the most I would pay for an exhaust. This sells elsewhere for close to $2K which is ridiculous in my book. A dual Ford V8 system sells for $500, so why is the Audi one 4 times the price? No more work involved... I priced fabbing an exhaust myself and parts came to around $400 so $200 for the saved time and effort suited me fine..

Cold air intakes... Waste of money IMHO... Get yourself a high flow drop-in filter... K&N makes one that is oiled cotton. Awe Tuning sells the ITG foam filters. I have a TrueFlow foam filter. Works great.

yes, alot to read there but greatly appreciated. So call me stupid, but most ICs are visible, being either TMIC or FMIC, so where the heck is it(them) cause I didn't know my car had one, or two? That engine compartment looks like they crammed a elephant into a vw beetle!

On the bi-turbos the ICs are on the sides. If you look past your car's fog lights you can see them on either side of the car.

This might be interesting reading if you're interested...
