Hello, I'm really desperate and i have a serious problem with the air con on my a6 1.9 tdi 2002. After it stooped working I've been at four garages including the Audi dealer and they could not find the problem but they charged me around 80 quid each
. What they all done, they recharged the gas and they plugged in the computer or vag com and here's the problem because what they get is "no communication" or "error too many communicatios..." so result to this no one has a clue what's the problem and they call them-self air con specialists. Anyway fully recharged when i switch off the econ mode the compressor will not kick-in but i can hear a relay under the dashboard clicking and by the way all the fans are working fine. Now please there is anyone who can help me because i really don't know what to do when no specialist in UK can fix this and outside we have nearly 30 degrees. Thank you. |

You need to check why there is no communication via Kwire,if the voltage at the Kwire diagnostic pin is ok and all supply feeds and earths ok at climatronic unit then it would make sense that the climatronic unit is defective. This could easily be overcome by swapping the unit for another from a doner vehicle to get the diagnostic pricess started. The problem you have here is that no diagnostic communication means that no values can be checjed in measured blocks however other control units for example read the a/c compressor activation, look in engine ecu measured value blocks for compressor readings channel 50

Hi, I've also got a 2002 A6 TDi and had a problem where the air con didn't come on. Like you I tried re-gassing etc, and was quoted £900 for a new compressor from an Audi dealer. I traced the fault to the rubber 'clutch' between the pulley wheel & the unit. I guess the compressor must be stiff and the additional load had caused the rubber to perish, so the pulley turned without turning the compressor.
I bodged mine up to test, by screwing 2 bolts through the pulley wheel to mate up with the shaft on the compressor. It does squeal sometimes when starting, but the air con works - and it's far cheaper than £900! Hope this is of help ![]() |
