What is the difference between the s6 4.2 and the a6 4.2 engines-technically?

Does anyone know what pumps the hp from 300 to 340 for the 4.2 a6 to s6 engines?Also has anyone made any mods to a 2002 a6 4.2 and if yes how are the results?

It's my understanding that the extra 40 horses come from a more agressive engine map and exhaust. I've wanted to get these extra 40 horses but just can't justify the ~ $2K for the GAIC chips and Milltek cat back.

Thank you.I thought so but I couldn't find the exact info.$2000 is a lot for 30-40 hp.I do love the car.I had a 02 allroad and even though it was nice I like the 4.2 better.

$2000 is a lot of money to spend, but come on guys. Real HP costs real $$$$. Trust me, I know!!!!!!

$50 per HP is a realistic number for most mods.
